Company History
Originally, we were just four friends who liked developing things in our spare time.  After doing a variety of projects and applications for various companies and individuals around the internet, we were contacted by the folks over at GP Limited.  As it turns out, they were looking to add some "development muscle" to their business line-up.  We had worked with some of their employees on previous projects and in 1998 we decided to take them up on their offer.   Forming under the name of 4kb Software, we began doing some of the development run-off from their various clients.

Who We Are
Much has changed since 1998.  4kb Software is now the sole provider of development services to all of GP's clients, handling everything from web sites to application development in a variety of languages.  We added two more people to the staff in 2000 to help keep up with the increased development load.  We also recently relocated our main office down to sunny San Diego, California, but we maintain offices and clients all around the world.

What's With The Name?
We originally formed under the name of 4kb Systems before we began to focus our efforts in development.  But why 4kb?  The name came about for two different reasons.  As mentioned above, 4kb software was originally started by 4 people.  The second reason, and what we thought would be the most obvious to everyone, is "4 kb" as in a 4 kilobyte file size.  We figured it's a great name for a business specializing in compact development and tight code writing, but apparently we are the only ones who thought so.  In any event, the name stuck.

Why We "Get It"
Nowadays, it seems to be the norm for companies to spy on users, to collect, track, and sell their private information, to embroil those same customers in frivolous lawsuits over IP and copyright protection.  Companies seem to be willing to dictate to their customers where they should go, instead of listening to what the customer has to say.  We don't know about you, but we hate that kind of thing.

As a company, 4kb Software is dedicated to the sharing of information, to allow the end-user to decide where he/she wants the software to take them, and to give back to the community which gave us so much.  We don't hide behind patents and copyrights -- we prefer to share the discoveries we have made with others in hopes that they can do something more with it than we did.  We don't spy on users, we don't sell your data, and we keep writing the best, cleanest code we know how.  And should we fail in the third objective, we release all of our projects (when possible) as open source so that someone can right the wrong.

Where Are We Headed
Hopefully down the long road of success and profitability!  Seriously, we have a few promising projects under development and some exciting services we hope to launch soon.  Additionally, we have plenty of revolutionary ideas, so good things are on the horizon.  Stay tuned...
